Our Mission

Powerful Voices for Kids is a comprehensive K-12 program designed to strengthen children’s abilities to think for themselves, communicate effectively using language and echnology tools, and use their powerful voices to contribute to the quality of life in their families, their schools, their communities and the world.  Our OPEN DOORS staff development program helps us find new partners to expand the program regionally and nationally.
The program consists of these components:
  •  Summer enrichment program in media literacy for students in grade K - 12
  •  Professional staff development program for educators
  •  Multimedia curriculum development
  •  Video documentation and research on the impact of media literacy education on student learning and academic achievement
  •  In-school mentoring
  •  Parent outreach program
Our Philosophy of Teaching and Learning is based on these principles:

INQUIRY: We create learning environments where asking questions, wondering and being curious is valued

CONNECTING TO KIDS' MEDIA WORLDS: We respect and value kids' experiences as media consumers AND creators, giving them opportunities to make connections between the classroom and the culture

EMERGENT CURRICULUM: Learning emerges around children's questions and interests by creating engaging activities that build knowledge and strengthen literacy competencies (access, analyze/evaluate, create, reflect, act

SCAFFOLDING: We provide transparency, reflection, structure and support to enable students to create meaningful multimedia projects and develop critical thinking and communication skills
