About the Program

The mission of the Powerful Voices for Kids program is to strengthen children's abilities to think for themselves, communicate effectively using language and technology tools, and use their powerful voices to contribute to the quality of life in their families, their schools, their communities, and the world.

The program consists of these components:

  • a month-long summer enrichment program for students
  • a staff development program for educators
  • in-school and after-school mentoring
  • parent and community outreach
  • measures of student learning and program effectiveness
  • research/assessment tools to measure learning progression and impact on academic achievement

Powerful Voices for Kids brings a comprehensive program of digital and media literacy education to K-12 schools. The Powerful Voices for Kids program is being piloted at the Russell Byers Charter School and, over the next three years, we will roll out in other schools who are seeking a comprehensive approach to integrating digital and media literacy education into the curriculum.
